Europa Cup Winterberg, Germany

Our next stop on the circuit brought us to Winterberg, Germany. They definitely chose a fitting name for this city as it snowed more in the week than I have ever seen in my life!

The track in Winterberg is a bit like the Igls track in the sense that the start time of your race is a very significant indicator of how you should end up by the finish line. Knowing I would have to put together 2 solid runs per race it again gave me a personal challenge to see if I could overcome the track stigma. I was extremely pleased with the result my first race as I ended up in 3rd position out of 25 sleds, and had beat many teams with much faster starting times than myself.

The second race did turn out as I had planned. I ended up having a malfunction with the part of my helmet that keeps the visor from fogging over. I ended up not being able to see anything as I tried to maneuver my way down the track. It was a very frightening situation as you can imagine driving your car on ice at 130km/hr and your windshield being totally fogged over !!! We made it to the bottom of the track okay but not in the best of times and I ended up in 8th position.

Still I felt the week had been a success and I had learned a lot about driving the track. Also its always pretty nice to be able to stand on the podium and watch your countries flag being risen.
