Whistler World Cup

Hey there,
I hope you got a chance on Friday afternoon to take a break from all the hard work you were doing, and turn on your computer to check out my World Cup race on the new Olympic track out in Whistler. The race day was awesome as it was warm and sunny, and the atmosphere at the track was unbelievable!! I have never seen such a turn out for Canadian bobsledding in my entire career, and I for sure have never had hundreds of fans cheer for me from the top to the bottom of the track. It was one of the best racing experiences I have ever had, and I’m sure is just a warm up for next years Olympic games. My result was not bad as I finished in 11th. I was pretty nervous and made a few driving mistakes early which makes it hard to catch up, but I had one of the top speeds at 143.7km/hr and was only 2 tenths of a second out of a podium finish.
This brings me to more good news to share with you all. Since I had a pretty good finish in Whistler, it was decided that I get to finish off the rest of the World Cup season as Canada 3 and get to compete in World Championships!!! I’m so very excited as this is exactly what I have been dreaming of all year long. So this Friday at 10am I will be racing in Park City, Utah in the final World Cup race of the season. Now that I have some of the jitters out of the way I think I can for sure move up a couple of placing and grab a medal for Canada.
After this race we head straight over to Lake Placid, New York for the World Championship event. World Champs and the Olympics are a 4-heat race that is run over 2 days and combines the times from all 4-heats to crown the champion. Again I am looking forward to this race as I had my best ever finish (6th) in a World Cup event on this track in my 2006-2007 season, and am aiming for a repeat! The races will run at 8:30am, Thursday Feb, 19 and Friday Feb, 20.
If you are interested in checking out these events, you can go to www.cbc.ca/sports and they will be aired lived.
Thanks so much for all of the well wishes and support. I feel so blessed that I have you all backing my dream and cheering me on each step of the way.
Amanda
